Bamboo Star is a Hong Kong based hard rock band which debuted in May 2012. As Chinese musicians hailing from Australia and Canada respectively, founding members lead singer/bassist Wolf Red and guitarist Terrish adopted a name which refers to Chinese people who have Western backgrounds. The trio was initially completed with Kyle Shea on drums. Together, the powerful, high-pitched belting, layered vocal harmonies and blistering, blues-driven guitar solos created a sound reminiscent of classic rock but with a contemporary edge.
The band worked hard performing and recording for the next year, and was privileged to be selected as one of the Top 14 Finalists of Hong Kong in Yamaha’s Asiabeat Competition in 2012. With the relocation of their drummer, the duo adapted and refined their skills in the acoustic department; releasing an MV of their acoustic rendition of Starlight by Slash and Myles Kennedy and their original song Believe in our Memory.
Bamboo Star was joined in 2013 by Samuel Chan on drums, whose jazz-fusion musicality and piano abilities bring a new dimension to the band’s sound.
Classic, 70s/80s-style hard rock re-imagined for the modern ear. Somewhere between Ozzy Osbourne, Bon Jovi, Guns N’ Roses and Skid Row but with a lot less hairspray. Occasionally also described as having a J-Rock sound.
